NABBA HISTORY
NABBA is the first and the original competitive bodybuilding association. Officially formed in 1950, The first Mr Universe contest was won by John Grimek in 1948, then NABBA evolved into the first true Bodybuilding Federation.
The Universe Championship went on in 1950 being won by Steve Reeves, who went on to make over 30 Hercules movies.
Iconic bodybuilders who have won the Mr Universe title include Reg Park, Bill Pearl and Arnold Schwarzenegger (fourtimes winner) and Australia’s own, Lee Preist.
The NABBA Universe Championship is the most prestigious event on the Bodybuilding world calendar, steeped in history and the foundation of the sport we know today.
The late Oscar Heidenstam was appointed Secretary in 1956 and continued to drive NABBA forward for more than 30years. At a meeting in London in 1984, NABBA International was formed and became host to the European & WorldChampionships.
This branch of NABBA is now supported by more than fifty countries.
NABBA in Australia has had a long history and has produced many Universe and World Title winners.
NABBA INTERNATIONAL AUSTRALIA is managed by athletes for athletes.
